Dr. Irina Portnoy

Dr. Irina PortnayaI am Irina.  I have been working at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Engineering during last 16 years under the framework of the KAMEA program, which is supporting by the Center for Absorption in Science of the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption.

My today’s position at the Technion is senior research fellow.

I received the professional education in Russia: M.Sc. Chemistry – at Lomonosov’s Moscow State Academy of Fine Chemical Technology (Department of Chemistry and Technology of Polymers); and Ph.D. Chemistry – at the Chair of Colloid Chemistry of the same Academy.

My Academic Appointments before arriving in the Technion are:

  • Research fellow at Lomonosov’s Moscow State Academy of Fine Chemical

Technology, (1978 – 1981)

and

  • Senior research fellow, Nesmeyanov’s Institute of Element Organic Compounds, Russian Academy of Science, Moscow (1989 – 1999).

I have also had the production work experience. I worked at the Factory of Latex Goods (Moscow) as Head of Central laboratory during 8 years (1982-1989).

My Research Interests are concerned with:

  • Association and micellization of milk caseins
  • Micellization of synthetic block copolymers, mixed micelles
  • Thermodynamic aspects of association processes
  • Stability and structuration of colloidal systems, in particular, cryo-structuration of polymer colloidal dispersions.

The scope of my personal interests include classical music and literature, theater and travels.
